This is a cute neighborhood cafe if I ever saw one. Cozy, relaxed and friendly, everything about Bluebird says “local”. In subtle ways it’s been designed to be enjoyable for about half an hour. There’s free wifi but no useful electrical outlets. The chairs are hard wood or backless stools. And it’s small enough that you are part of your neighbors’ conversations, which is only tolerable for so long. But for the first half hour or so, it’s a gorgeously sunny place to sit and enjoy the leafy outlook.
Coffee-wise it’s decent without being spectacular. While the baristas always turn out beautiful looking coffees, underneath the premium milk the espresso can taste a bit muddy. They pull a double ristretto of Counter Culture in every cup, achieving nicely balanced cortados and cappuccinos that aren’t too strong. It’s obvious that there’s care in their work, however they’ve got a little ways to go yet.
